Imgur user Nukeclears has posted a series of screenshots comparing moments from the Fallout 4 trailer to close approximations in Fallout 3.
The screenshots begin with an iconic shot of the new companion dog in Fallout 4 being compared to a dog from Fallout 3 and moves to other shots comparing things like draw distance (how far away things can be rendered and viewed), NPC models, lighting, attention to detail in a scene, and the graphical fidelity of weapons.
It is unclear what platform the Fallout 3 screenshots are from and, if taken on a PC, what the specifications of the user’s PC are and what the video settings were tuned to for these screenshots.
Nonetheless, the screenshots offer a quick trip back to 2008 when Fallout 3 was released and show how the visual fidelity of the series has changed over, roughly, the last seven years.
Fallout 4 was announced just over a week prior to Bethesda’s first E3 press conference in history. Bethesda followed the first trailer for the game up with a gameplay demo that showed off the character creation system, gameplay, and more. Fallout 4 will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One (which will include official mod support), and PC on November 10, 2015.
