It's been a few days since Valve announced Dota 2 Reborn, their remake of Dota 2, replete with an all new user interface, an overhaul of game systems, and a top-to-bottom remake of the game's client.
Today, the studio unveiled Part 2 of their three-part reveal of Dota 2 Reborn, revealing the game's all new Custom Games system, which allows players to play customized modes of Dota 2.
According to Valve, these modes can be everything from a brawl between ten Invokers, to a story-driven dungeon narrative, to other creative modes. The studio says that Custom Games represents a continuation of the tradition that gave birth to the first Dota (a custom mod for Warcraft 3), Team Fortress (a mod for Quake), and Counter-Strike (a mod for Half-Life).
The company wants to build an ecosystem where you can experience something new each time you play Dota 2, and they're doing this through the Custom Games system.
To facilitate all of this, there's a hub that allows players to search for new custom games by filtering them through popular games, favorite games, friend activity, and suggested games. There's also the ability to vote on games.
Valve has authored its very own custom game, called Overthrow, which lets a small team fight free-for-all as players try to earn enough kills to win the match before the timer expires. The studio will also reveal another Valve-authored game mode in the coming weeks.
Part 3 of Valve's big reveal will be announced in a few days. Check out Part 2 here.
