The Kickstarter for Yu Suzuki's Shenmue 3 has achieved full funding after its announcement during Sony's E3 press conference last night.
Shenmue 3's $2 million crowdfunding drive reached its target in around 10 hours, and stands at $2,453,806 at the time of writing with 31 days to go. A series of stretch goals have yet to be met, including those for subtitles in various languages. Goals between the $3 and $4 million dollar marks will see rapport and skill tree systems added to the game, in addition to extra mini-games.
Set in China during the 1980s, Shenmue 3 features three areas – Baisha, Choubu, and Bailu Village. Characters Lan Di, Shenhua, and Niao Sun (previously only seen in Shenmue 2 promotional materials) have been teased by the game's concept art.
The game is being developed by Monaco-based Shibuya Productions, the company currently also developing the Astroboy TV reboot. Numerous developers from the original team have returned to help make the game, which is tentatively aiming for a December 2017 release date on PC and PlayStation 4.
