A new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain premiered on YouTube Gaming today.
Running roughly five and a half minutes, the trailer shows lots of footage, both old and new, including plenty of shots of the game’s protagonist, Big Boss, as well as the supporting cast. It begins with a quote from Emil Cioran, a Romanian philosopher, that reads, “It is not nation we inhabit, but a language. Make no mistake; our native tongue is our true fatherland.” The trailer goes on to include many lines about the importance of language. Finally, the trailer closes out with a close-up shot of both Solid and Liquid Snake.
The trailer, directed and edited by Hideo Kojima, marks Kojima’s last Metal Gear Solid E3 trailer. After fallout with Konami, Kojima will be departing the company in December.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1, 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 followed by a September 15 release on Windows PC.
