Bethesda’s Doom reveal came and went. If you were looking forward to return to corridor shooters, here are the features Bethesda confirmed for the game:
- Industrial rock soundtrack. As our source notes, it reminds him of Quake’s soundtrack.
- Full weapon carrying capacity and loadout.
- Kinetic gunplay. With fast tactical weapon switching, it’s a true return of twitch gameplay.
- Rhythmic combat and fast skillful movement.
- Brutal finishers, that are just as gory and satisfying as they were in previous Doom games.
- Blood and Guts. Although some of this is less than satisfying, for players with a taste for violence, this will definitely satisfy.
- Tons of Multiplayer modes.
- User generated content. This includes not only mapping, but modding support with the new 'Doom SnapMap' toolkit.
- Enemies now drop health when they die. The precondition could possibly be after you use a finisher on them, or something else, but either way, this changes up gameplay in a big way.
- Revenants. These bastards fly like the Icarus from Quake 2, and are annoying as ever.
- Hunting corpses to get keys, instead of just hunting keys. In one scene, you can pick up a severed hand and place them on a biometrics scanner to gain access to a new area. It probably won’t be the last time you will have to do that.
- Finally, the game features an aesthetic that is somewhere in the middle of Doom 64 and Doom 3.
Doom will be released on Spring 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Were you satisfied with what Bethesda revealed today? What else would you like to see in the game? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
