Valve has announced a new game. It's neither Half-Life 3 nor a new Left 4 Dead, unfortunately. Instead, it's a remastering of Dota 2, titled Dota 2 Reborn. According to the press release, Valve is revamping and changing almost every part of Dota 2, including the engine the game is built on.
While Valve doesn't make any explicit mention of what the new engine might be, fans speculate that Dota 2 Reborn will be powered by Source 2, the successor to Valve's Source Engine, which powered Half-Life 2, Portal, Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2.
In addition to the new engine, Valve is bringing considerable changes to the game's user interface, which is seeing a host of revisions to make it easier for players to connect to oneanother, spectate, and organize tournaments. There's in-game streaming and stat tracking to top it all off.
Valve has announced plans to release more information about the game's new custom game system early next week, and is slated to launch the Dota 2 Reborn beta client late next week–after E3 2015.
