The Steam Summer Sale is in full swing and while that's usually cause for PC players everyone to rejoice even as their wallets weep, it seems some developers took advantage of the sale by increasing the prices of their games before it started so they could offer smaller discounts when the sale began.
From reports around the internet and our own investigations, it seems Rockstar is offering a 25% reduction for Grand Theft Auto 5, cutting the price from €74.99 to €56.23 with a Great White Shark Cash Card. The card is worth $1.25 million of in-game currency or €15 in real terms.
This means the game and card price combined was €75 before the cut but, significantly, the standard version of the game without the Shark Card costs €59.99 and hasn't been reduced. Therefore, it's currently cheaper to buy the game and card at present than the game on its own.
Rockstar seemingly added a Shark Card to increase before offering the discount to bring down to normal price. The game combined with the Shark Card is also listed first on the game's Steam page and those who select it cannot get a refund for the Shark Card.
