Sony has released a trailer which offers a look at both the upcoming Ratchet & Clank movie and the video game re-imagining of the original title.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac community lead James Stevenson said the goal was to "tie in with the deeper version of Ratchet’s origin story as seen in the film. We envisioned a curated Ratchet & Clank experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 titles while infusing some of the best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games."
He says the development team ended up with "a new game" which features of elements of the original as well as a modern control scheme, new planets to explore, additional and updated gameplay segments, new boss fights and flight sequences, and more enhancements which allow the game to take advantage of the PS4's graphical capabilities.
Classic weapons such as the Groovitron and Mr. Zurkon will be back, along with new guns such as the Pixelizer (which changes enemies into exploding 8-bit pixels). If you pre-order the game you'll get the Bouncer weapon from Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked & Loaded. The Bouncer set off a bomb which releases a horde of tiny homing robots which bounce towards the target.
Ratchet & Clank will be playable at E3 next week but for those not attending, the game and movie are both due out in 2016.
