Paypal has outed the start of E3 season’s Steam summer sale, and it’s coming far sooner than you think.
Several fans have already received emails from Paypal informing them that the Steam sale is starting this June 11, and will be ongoing past E3 through June 21.
Keen PC gamers may have already noted that competitors like GOGcom, Gamersgate, and Humble Bundle preemptively launched their sales days, even weeks before Steam. Of course, they may have shrewdly noted they would not be able to compete for attention with Valve once word of mouth got out.
Last year’s Steam summer sale had different kinds of sales on offer, including daily deals, that changed every 24 hours, flash sales, which were only live every eight hours, and community picked games.
The latter was a participatory element of the sale that kept fans going back. You voted on two sets of games, and earned trading cards along the way. You could also earn a Summer Adventure badge by earning special trading cards you can get from voting, as well as trading in the Community Market, crafting badges, or buying more games.
In fact, there was even a team competition connected to the summer sale that Valve’s own consumers tried to game, to Valve’s chagrin. While we doubt Valve will bring everything back from that sale, they are likely to bring back many elements back.
