Voxelnauts is a new MMO from developer Ready Ronin, which is currently hosting a Kickstarter fundraising campaign for the virtual reality-based project.
The crowd-funding initiative has so far raised $85,000 of its $200,000 goal with 16 days to go.
Inspired by Ernest Cline's 2011 dystopian sci-fi novel Ready Player One, Voxelnauts brings together retro gaming tropes and concepts for games from the future in a single MMO sandbox RPG package.
While the game clearly takes some of its cues from Minecraft, it looks to be a very ambitious project and it should be, given that the developers previously worked at the likes of Starbound, Oculus VR, Naughty Dog, Id Software, Neversoft, and Red 5 Studios.
Voxelnauts has also been approved by the Steam Greenlight community.
