Bungie has filed a batch of new trademark applications for Eververse. Speculation is high that it is related to Destiny, but it could just as much be its own thing.
There are three trademarks in total, one for the Eververse name, another for an Eververse Trading Co, and third for the logo above. Bungie also filed a trademark for the name The Taken King.
Our source connects Eververse to Bungie’s statements regarding adding a player trading system to Destiny. However, as I alluded to above, it’s also possible that Eververse could be completely separate from Destiny.
If ever, Eververse could be Bungie’s second original IP after Destiny. If this is the case, they could reveal this IP in this coming E3, which is only a few weeks away. Nintendo’s patent application for Code Name S.T.E.A.M. was similarly outed close to last year’s E3.
Bungie, of course, is most closely associated with the Halo franchise, but in its formative years, it produced not only Marathon, but action title Oni and the Myth tactical strategy game series, which is currently owned by Take-Two Interactive.
Bungie could very well make a new IP that isn’t a shooter in Eververse. They could even go back to strategy games to make a Myth spiritual successor of sorts, or enter a new game genre for them.
