Frictional Games, developer of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, has released almost 13 minutes of gameplay for its sci-fi horror game SOMA.
The game was first announced back in October 2013, and has been in development since 2010. SOMA is set at the bottom of the ocean and Frinctional's co-founder Thomas Grip said of the location, "Most of our earth is covered in ocean, and yet it’s something that we know very little about. It is an incredibly hostile environment filled with strange creatures, and it is right on our door step. The ocean is an alien world, and we’ve only scratched the surface. We feel it’s the perfect place to explore in a horror game."
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Grip explained why the game has taken five years to develop, "The aim with SOMA is to explore the unsettling aspects of subjects such as consciousness, identity and our very existence. We didn’t want to do this by simply having some ham-fisted exposition now and then, we wanted the player to experience this first-hand."
SOMA is headed for PC and PlayStation 4 on September 22nd.
