GSC Gameworld, the makers of the STALKER series of first-person shooters, is back. They aren't working on a new FPS as far as we know, but they have announced the development of an "old-fashioned, full-price" strategy game called Cossacks 3.
The Ukrainian studio temporarily shuttered its doors back in 2011, but they appear to be back and in fulll working order.
Played from an isometric perspective, the upcoming title is a modern take on the old Cossacks RTS games and is set to feature all new mechanics and battles with support for up to 10,000 units at any given time.
The first Cossacks was released in 2001 and featured gameplay similar to Age of Empires, with resource collection and building construction. Unlike its counterpart from Ensemble, Cossacks allowed players to field extremely large armies and conduct large battles.
True to the historical era it's based on, Cossacks 3 will return to the 17th and 18th centuries featuring 12 playable nations across five historical campaigns. There will also be realistic projectile physics (think parabolic arcs) and randomly generated maps and environments.
The game is out at the end of the year for PC.
