The creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED, have announced that they have hit the one million pre-order milestone ahead of the game's release on May 17.
"We’ve crossed the 1 million pre-order milestone and it’s all thanks to you guys! We would like to thank all the gamers for their trust and support," said Marcin IwiÅ„ski, co-founder of CD Projekt RED. "This is the last stretch and we’re pushing hard — over the last two weeks, we’ve increased performance on all platforms and started working full speed on the expansions, Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine."
The game has since garnered over 200 awards and is regarded as the studio's most ambitious endeavor to date, surpassing the likes of its previous titles in every single way possible.
Set in what the developer calls a "truly open world," The Witcher 3 puts players in the role of Geralt of Rivia, the titular Witcher, who hunts down and slays monsters throughout the countryside. In the latest game, Geralt takes on the greatest contract of his life to track down the Child of Prophecy, a living weapon that can alter the shape of the world.
The game will receive 16 DLCs entirely for free, available on all the platforms the game is coming out for– the PC, Xbox One and PS4. The DLCs will be released in pairs on a weekly basis starting May 20.
