We have some new details on Tom Clancy’s The Division, thanks to Open World Games. You can subscribe to them on YouTube here.
Ubisoft Annecy has been revealed to be joining Massive Entertainment, Red Storm ,and Ubisoft Reflections on the game. Annecy was last known for working on Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Assassin’s Creed 2. For those games, as it is for Tom Clancy’s The Division, they have come on board to work on the multiplayer online component.
Ubisoft is working on scaling down the map, as a matter of necessity. The game’s plot demands you stay on foot, and there is not only the worry that you will take some time getting through the map, but that you will encounter a lot of repeating areas.
Ubisoft seems to be interested in meddling in microtransaction DLC. Openings for Ubisoft Massive indicate they need people to study online data for popular trends within the game. In particular, the studio is looking for business intelligence analysts and analytics managers.
The two openings seem similar, but are distinct. The business intelligence analysts will be in charge of collecting and analyzing data, and will form part of the analytics team. The analytics managers are higher up the line. In Ubisoft’s own words:
You’ll work with live operations leaders to understand their business questions, and provide them with the answers they need to make well-informed, player-focused decisions.
Did you expect to read a more sinister job description? Ubisoft isn’t treating monetization for The Division like Zynga does for its games. Whatever DLC microtransactions Ubisoft will finally add in should strike a balance between giving most players a fair chance, but enough of an advantage to DLC buyers to make it worthwhile.
Tom Clancy’s The Divisionwill be released on 2015 on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
