Oculus VR has revealed on their official site that the Oculus Rift will be shipping in Q1 2016. They will also be accepting preorders later this year.
They have shared new images of an improved headset, which Oculus says iterates on what they did with the original Developer Edition headset, as well as Crescent Bay. Oculus cites improvements in the tracking system, industrial design, and more natural ergonomics. It does look like a deep sea diver helmet, with possibly rubberized, or at least softened, parts. This decision should lead to a lighter headset that’s easier to wear for extended periods of time.
On the same post, Oculus promised more details on the blog, and a forthcoming E3 presence. We will learn more about hardware, software, input, and upcoming games and experiences. Next week, we will get more information on the platform’s specifications.
