It's Star Wars day today. May the 4th be with you, and so forth. With that out of the way, let's take a look at some of the latest updates in the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront.
As many fans of DICE's Battlefield series can attest, the games come with maps and battles that allow up to 64 players (two teams of 32 players) to fight in. Therefore, it was assumed that Star Wars Battlefront too would be offering 64-player battles. That appears not to be the case, as DICE has confirmed that battles will be designed for 40 players at the max, with 8 players at the minimum.
"We didn't want to use an arbitrary number that would lessen the experience," said producer Craig Mcleod in an interview with IGN. He further stated that the game would offer a range of modes that affect the experience, all the way down to eight players for a "more intimate experience."
Concerned players wondered why the number was capped to 40 instead of 64, to which a DICE employee on reddit responded: "The 40-player max is not a result of Battlefield telemetry."
"It was an internal decision to aim for this for various reasons. And of course the map design will reflect whatever max player limit you have, otherwise it would just be very bad map design.
"Battlefront is not Battlefield. That's never been the intention; our intention with Battlefront is to build a game that feels and is very different from Battlefield."
Star Wars Battlefront is out on November 17th, 2015 for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
