Ex Machina: Alex Garland’s AI Film Expands to 1000 U.S. Theatres this Friday

April 22, 2015 by Stephen Daly

Be prepared to ask yourself plenty of hard questions when you meet Ava.

Ex Machina has finally landed in the U.S. after picking up rave reviews when it released on the other side of the pond in January and the Alex Garland (28 Days Later/The Beach) movie will be expanding into 1,000 theatres around the country this Friday.

The film stars Domnhall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac – both of whom will be appearing alongside each other in Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December – as an employee and enigmatic Steve Jobs-like CEO of a major tech company respectively.

Gleeson's character Caleb wins a competition to visit Nathan's (Isaac) remote estate where he's introduced to a revolutionary AI known as Ava (Alicia Vikander).

Ex Machina revolves around questions of what it means to be human and how technology is affecting our lives. If that sounds like something you're interested in, be sure to check out the above trailer.
