Grand Theft Auto 5 is insanely popular. But just how popular is the game, in numbers, exactly?
In what may be the least surprising news to anyone who follows the developments of the video game industry, Grand Theft Auto 5 has set a new record for concurrent players on Steam for a non-Valve title.
Peaking at over 300,000 players, Grand Theft Auto 5 is now the third most popular game on Steam, down from Dota 2 and CS: Global Offensive, which peaked at 780,000 and 529,000 users respectively today alone. Valve titles have previously gone over the million mark, so there's just no competing against them unless you're Blizzard or Riot Games.
The last non-Valve game to feature such numbers was the 2011 RPG release Skyrim, which reached 280,000 concurrent players upon its release.
Needless to say, Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PC is building to be a massive success and we're only surprised it wasn't released for the platform sooner than it was.
