Mother Kombat X has released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows, but not without a pile of issues and controversies.
Before the game even got published on Steam, fans discovered a DLC pack that had people buzzing. A 30 Easy Fatalities pack gives fans access to simplified inputs to the famed finishing moves. The pack is up for $ 4.99, and a similar pack lets you use 5 fatalities for $ 0.99. It seems these are not specific fatalities, but the number of times you can use fatalities with simple inputs. It's a particularly irksome choice of DLC considering other fighting games, like Blazblu, offer simplified controls for free.
Some Steam users have encountered issues with downloading the game, thanks to the streaming download system Warner Bros Interactive chose to use on the platform. The initial download is only 3GB, and the game loads as you play, only for many players it’s not working at all. The DLC content some fans should be getting for preloading also aren’t available.
Fans are complaining that Steam is either not downloading the game properly, stuck at the menu, or just having the game crash on them. To put it simply, the game is unplayable for PC at the moment.
Lastly, a fan found his copy of the game has region locked online servers on PlayStation 4. He is particularly constrained as he lives in the UK, and is using a US account on his console.
He was able to download and install the US version, but he’s only allowed to play with other fans in the US. He also confirmed that he could not connect with a friend who has a UK copy of the game, and that this region lock is only effective on PS4.
