Halo 5: Guardians: Latest #HuntTheTruth Podcast Reveals ONI Coverup Conspiracy

April 13, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Benjamin Giraud accumulates evidence of planted fake information regarding Master Chief.

We parse through the latest entry in 343 Industries’ viral #HuntTheTruth campaign for Halo 5: Guardians. Benjamin Giraud shares details from interviews with people who know Master Chief as John-117, only to find out it does not all add up.

Giraud’s sincere attempt to piece together John-117’s life is compromised when inconsistencies between his sources come up. First off, he verifies Katrina’s information that John’s parents didn’t die before John entered the Spartan program, contradicting information from his ONI source, Sully.

The second contradiction comes from a vet who claimed that John was a superhuman athlete when he trained with him on Reach, when an ODST tells the tale of John killing two of their kind after a verbal skirmish.

Lastly, Giraud finds himself doublechecking the claims of John’s former boxing instructor, when a source points out the insurrectionists in New Elyisum held a political presence and not an armed one in the area.

In each incident, Giraud finds that compromised sources were either on the take or could be monitored by ONI.

There isn’t much truly new in this entry so far. If you are familiar with Halo lore, you know that John-117 did undergo physical augmentation at around 13 or 14, giving him the body of an 18 year old. John also really did get into a fight with four ODSTs, killing two and injuring two. What Giraud does not know is that the incident was orchestrated by ONI to test his augmentations.

If anything, the revelation would be that Giraud is accumulating evidence that ONI is involved in a coverup with John, and their motives have yet to be fully explained.

What do you think ONI’s master plan is in all this? And do you think Giraud will survive his investigation long enough to make it to the game? Share your thoughts with us in the comments. You can, of course, listen to the recording in the embedded player above.

Halo 5: Guardians will be released exclusively on Xbox One on October 27, 2015.
