It’s the mystery you can see a mile away, as 343 Industries launches a new viral campaign for Halo 5: Guardians, called #HunttheTruth. We share info courtesy of HaloFollower, whose channel you can subscribe to here.
The #HunttheTruth site is run by one Benjamin Giraud, an investigative journalist with connections to the UNSC, UEC, and ONI. Our source bought into the obvious narrative that Giraud is making anti Master Chief propaganda, based on those connections, but let me put forward an alternate theory.
In the field of journalism, it’s not just possible, but necessary, to have connections with the groups and organizations one covers. It’s one of the most reliable ways to get stories, even those that are critical of those groups and organizations. It’s also possible to have worked with those organizations to cover stories. For example, military companies would be willing to hire journalists to help them investigate internal issues. Governments will also generally give way to journalists covering what they do, even if it’s something like waging war, with respect to general principles.
For these reasons, it’s entirely possible that Giraud is on the level, and that events that we are not yet privy to have caused him to brand Master Chief as a traitor. That may change as we learn more in this viral, but who knows? Maybe Master Chief really did cross the line at some point. Of course, you can watch our source for their take on this story.
The same blog posted a newer promotional video showing off Microsoft’s video tech capabilities. It’s a short video of a bullet zipping into a Master Chief’s helmet, breaking it. If you use Microsoft’s pause tool, you can see with each spin that the bullet is embossed with these words:
Son, Abductee, Victim, Orphan, Recruit, Soldier, Warrior, Ally, Hero, Savior, Traitor
It’s entirely possible that this will be the narrative of Giraud’s investigative series.
What do you make of this Benjamin Giraud? Are you ready to play in a world where your old friend Master Chief is a traitor you must hunt down? Share your thoughts with us in the comments. Halo 5: Guardians will be released exclusively for Xbox One in holiday 2015.
