The story arc of Starcraft, which began so many years ago, is set to conclude with the upcoming expansion from Blizzard, Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void. That being said however, the Starcraft universe and setting will persist through other characters and stories as yet untold in the franchise.
A Blizzard rep told IGN that Legacy of the Void will "offer a nice conclusion" to the existing story arc.
"StarCraft will live on as a universe. We hope to explore some other aspects of the universe, but the storyline that was setup in StarCraft I and continued in StarCraft II will resolve in Legacy of the Void. All of those main characters will reach a nice satisfying conclusion."
The developer also revealed to us that new Protoss units and maps will grace the upcoming title. One such unit, called the Adept, is described as a "gateway unit with a ground-only attack and a movement speed of normal. The Adept can send a duplicate of itself out and later teleport to where it was placed."
It'll be interesting to see how the unit fares in multiplayer, which sports these three new maps:
Ruins of Seras – Seras is an ancient temple in a mountainous region of Aiur, the Protoss homeworld. It currently stands in ruins, surrounded by an encroaching jungle.
Lerilak Crest – Named after the Dark Templar who discovered it, this is an area on a Dark Templar world, embedded by xel’naga ruins.
Orbital Shipyard – Floating high above Korhal IV, this is a Terran starship repair platform.
Blizzard will begin sending out invites to closed beta testing on March 31.
