Obsidian's Kickstarted game Pillars of Eternity has achieved gold status ahead of its launch on Thursday, March 26th.
“Seeing Pillars of Eternity through has been an incredible journey for all of us at a deeply personal level,” Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment, commented in a press release. “When we took our idea to Kickstarter, our fans got behind us more than we ever thought. It’s been a blast to match their enthusiasm, see them cheer us on, and have them help to keep us on course every step of the way. It's crazy to think that more than two years have come and gone, but time flies that way when you are creating something as important as Pillars of Eternity has become to us.”
Inspired by classic RPGs including Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, and Baldur's Gate, the game features at original story and game world as well as a combination of time-honoured gameplay features and entirely new mechanics.
Pre-orders will come with two in-game items; Gaun's Pledge, a powerful support item for heroes in need, and a Giant Miniature Space Piglet companion.
Crowd-funded to the tune of $4 million in 2012, when the game was titled Project Eternity, Pillars of Eternity will be available for PC, Mac, and Linux. The game was set for release last year, but was delayed to incorporate player feedback.
