Are you one of the few who went out of their way to preorder their special limited edition gold Mario amiibo? You’ll want to sit down for this.
Emails have come out from exclusive retailer Walmart revealing that the gold Mario amiibo has been delayed. It seems most fans who preordered received this message, so if you haven’t, you may want to check your email to make sure.
This is what your email will say this:
Thank you for your Walmart.com preorder. The release date of the item(s) listed below has been delayed. The revised arrival date is shown below.
We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Please note that Walmart does not control this release date, which is set by the manufacturer.
Now, based on this excerpt of the email shared on Twitter, the gold Mario amiibo, originally slated for release on March 20, the amiibo should arrive in stores by April 8, 2015. This is well after the release of the game its connected to, Mario Party 10, which releases for Wii U on March 12.

Nintendo had previously blamed amiibo shipping issues to a major port lockdown, but that issue has been resolved since. Of course, it also only accounted for partial Western distribution as well.
Nintendo also mentioned some difficulties making enough amiibo to match demand, especially with limitations on how much they can have manufactured at a time. While casual observers think they should just flood the market with amiibo, that may not be an option for limited edition amiibo like the gold Mario.
How do you think Nintendo should deal with the current, and pending future, concerns surrounding limited edition amiibo scarcity? Is there a way for Nintendo to keep scalpers at bay and fans happy? Or do you subscribe to the conspiracy theory that Nintendo purposely keeps supplies low? Share your ideas with us in the comments.
