Splatoon Details: Octolings, Special Moves, And More

March 6, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The humanlike Octolings are the Elites of the Octarian army.

Famitsu’s latest article on Splatoon is out, giving us all the details about the Octolings. We’re supplementing the information here with what’s already been revealed in the US Splatoon Tumblr account.

The Octarians have been appearing in Octo Valley, the starting point for single player. Cap’n Cuttlefish has been keeping watch, and he believes their secret lair is just below. He also believes the Octarians are planning to set a trap for the Inklings. Cuttlefish will help you throughout single player, and you will also get exclusive equipment for that mode. Basically, you will be retrieving energy that the Octarians stole.

You can tell how strong an Octarian is by how many tentacles he or she has. The humanlike Octolings are the Elites of the Octarian army, and are heavily armed with ink guns, rollers and bombs of their own. The Octolings have a propensity for appearing in pairs or groups, but it seems the best strategy is to take them out one at a time.

There are also:

·         Octopus divers, that can dive into ink

·         Octopus helicopters that can float midair

·         One eyed octopus balls that roll around to spread ink

·         Octopus robots, basically an ink rocket with legs and radar

Finally, EAD revealed some tricks you can pull off. You can do a super jump while in squid form inside the pools of ink. You can also make certain elevators move by shooting at propeller fans. Finally, you can shoot at some devices to make a rope, that you can then climb onto in squid form.

Splatoon will be released to the Wii U on May 2015.
