Joseph Kosinski is in early talks to helm the long in development Gran Turismo film.
Kosinski made his directorial debut with Tron Legacy in 2010, and later the Tom Cruise-helmed Oblivion in 2013. If this deal pushes through, Polyphony Digital will have snagged a director who has a background in 3D modeling and graphics. Both movies have shown he can masterfully leverage that knowledge into making visually spectacular films.
However, both movies have also received mixed reviews, as many critics complain that Kosinski doesn’t have the storytelling skills to match his visual flair.
Aside from Tron Legacy, Kosinski ‘s resume includes the Halo 3 ‘Starry Night’ commercial, as well as the Gears of War ‘Mad World’ commercial, so he clearly has an interest in games. However, he is connected to multiple projects, including a Tron Legacy sequel, a science-fiction film called Archangels, a teen drama called The Trials of White Boy Rick, as well as remakes of Logan's Run, The Black Hole, and The Twilight Zone.
Kosinski apparently also has been working on making a racing game movie for several years, but to no avail. If the film does push through, it may take some while before we see it.
