Monolith Soft has shared some new details on the Xenoblade Chronicles X site, including this new video that shows off how the weather changes the game world.
The most striking thing about this one minute of footage is the feeling of scale the game gives you. The camera is pulled back quite a bit so that you see, not only your immediate surroundings, but a pretty good view of Mira’s sky.
Aside from the impressive vistas, you can see some interesting creature behaviors, as certain creatures only come out to surface when it’s a sunny day, when it’s night, or when it’s a particular weather condition. This includes an Aurora Borealis-like phenomena.
You canuse a Rest Spot to change the time of day, although there’s nothing here about affecting the weather. This is what the menu to change the time looks like:
Weather effects include Fair, Cloudy, Rain, Thunder & Lightning, Aurora, and Rainbow. There are also weather conditions that occur only in certain continents, like Sandstorms and Heatwaves.
We are also introduced to two new characters, Lao, and Douglas. These two know each other from since the US military.
Lao is one of B.L.A.D.E.'s team leaders. He has a fighting skill that even Elma admires. Surprisingly, he is also sensitive, but this gets expressed in how passionate he can be.
Douglas is an all around skilled military man, with a specialty at piloting Dolls. He looks stern, but even Lyn will make fun of him when he makes mistakes. He served under Elma as part of the Doll Team.
Finally, we have some concept art from artist RARE Engine, which you can see below.
Xenoblade Chronicles X will be releasing exclusively to the Wii U this year.
