Destiny's game world is extremely large. Developer Bungie Studios has revealed that they wanted the game to be much bigger, but have yet to clarify by how much. A couple of team members recently provided commentary in a ride-along video highlighting the different areas of the game's massive 'Cosmodrome' area.
Here it is:
At the 59:05 mark, one of the developers makes a very interesting remark:
“There’s a lot of stuff that didn’t make the cut. I think our original vision for this was something about five-to-ten times bigger, geographically, and our eyes were way bigger than our stomachs.”
While there are a huge number of us gamers who would have loved to see that game world a reality, they continued on, saying that they were held back by playability concerns.
We ended up condensing things to be closer and closer, and one of the biggest reasons we did that was we wanted players to see other players. And when you get a space that’s too big, you just don’t see anybody, it gets kind of empty and lonely. And the other problem is, we have a limit to the number of combatants we can have in a space at any one time.”
While Bungie definitely knows what they're doing, what do you think a much larger Destiny would have done for the fledgling franchise? Let us know in the comments below.
