Game Informer was offered some insight into the movie adaptation of The Last of Us during a recent chat with Naughty Dog about their upcoming game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Last year, studio veteran and The Last of Us writer Neil Druckmann remarked that the game would be an adaptation of the story of the game but he told Game Infomer:
“It’s coming along really well. I just finished the second draft and we did a table read with a bunch of actors. It’s pretty faithful to the game. There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story’s trying to say is pretty faithful.”
Druckmann, who also co-wrote all four Uncharted games, is acting as screenwriter and producer on the movie. If they can get the tone and themes of the game to cross to the silver screen the movie could be something pretty special but many consider The Last of Us to be a very movie-like experience as it is and any major changes could be controversial.
Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones fame has been contacted by Naughty Dog about playing the part of Ellie, and said she "would love" to take on the role. At the moment, it's unknown who Sony is targeting to play Joel but the fact that there has been a table read with actors suggests things are progressing well.
