Splatoon is coming, slowly but surely! The paint-splattering third-person Wii U shooter made an appearance during today's Nintendo Direct, where it showed off some rather hefty customization options.
When you start the game, you'll be tossed into a hub plaza that looks like a Tokyo shopping district. From here, you can enter a tower to start a multiplayer match, or you could buy some gear using in-game currency. There are four types of shops: weapons, clothes, headgear, and shoes. You can then enter battle with a set of three weapons: a main weapon, a subweapon, and a special weapon.
The clothing combinations, aside from looking stylish, also affect your stats. You can put on your favorite ensemble and then strut your stuff in the plaza, where other players will appear via Miiverse. You can see what they're wearing and how their gear affects their stats, as well.
Splatoon is hitting Wii U in May.
