Developer Harebrained Schemes knows its way around the Shadowrun franchise and Kickstarter by now. Nearly three years ago, the studio launched a campaign for Shadowrun Returns, and its ambition was rewarded with a final donation total over four times the asking amount of $400K. After pumping the title out to market, the team then prepared a standalone release of its Dragonfall expansion. Now its looking towards a new destination: China.
Shadowrun: Hong Kong again sees the team relying on Kickstarter, but things are a bit different this time around. See, Hong Kong is already budgeted for and well into development — whether or not the new campaign is a success, the game will come out in mid-2015. The Kickstarter is merely to expand the base game, with improved interface upgrades, an additional playable character, animatics, and more.
Harebrained is asking for at least $100K, and that goal has already been smashed. If this campaign follows the original Kickstarter's trajectory, we're looking at $1 million easy.
