EGM has revealed that Friday the 13th is getting a new video game, tentatively dated for October of this year.
Everyone knows that Friday the 13th has been prolific enough to receive multiple sequels, and most know about the 1989 NES game from LJN. However, there was also a 1986 game that hit multiple home computers, including the CPC, C64 and ZX Spectrum, and a 2000 mobile game by Xendex.
This new game will be an asynmmetrical coop / competitive predator / prey horror game where a group of would be victims are pitted against the infamous hockey mask wearing murderer, Jason Voorhees.
The game’s release coincides with the pending 13th film, as well as a new TV series in production. As such, it will incorporate lore from the classic films as well as the TV show.
We doubt that the game’s developers (notably still unnamed, but will apparently be revealed soon) will be as meticulous on details as DICE are on Star Wars Battlefront, but with the original movie’s creator, Sean S. Cunningham, involved, it should be true to the spirit of the franchise as a whole.
While I’m sure most fans would want this to be a shooter, it is more likely to be a horror and/or adventure game. What form would you like this game to take? Should Jason Voorhees be playable, or is it better for the game if you were pitted against him? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
