Microsoft has had to clear up confusion once again regarding their DRM policy following issues with Far Cry 4 on Xbox One.
Before the Xbox One saw release, Microsoft already clarified that they had rescinded the feared DRM policy, which required things like analways online connection to play games. Also a provision was that you might lose access to games once they get delisted from the Xbox One store.
What had happened in particular that made users fearful was when that scenario actually played out and Far Cry 4 temporarily went missing from the Xbox One store. Subsequently, some people who owned the game were locked out.
Ubisoft did not make any statement, but Microsoft shared this response to VideoGamer regarding the issue:
If customers own the rights to a game, they can visit their download history and initiate a re-download whenever they please – even if thegame has been delisted from Xbox Store and is no longer available for purchase.
Based on Microsoft’s past and present statements, there should be no more confusion that that DRM policy, which was hugely unpopular in itsannouncement, is not coming back and will not be doing so at all.
