Just as 2015 began, Steam set a new record for concurrent users with 8.46 million people being logged in at the same time.
The figure, achieved at around 14:30 Eastern/11:30 Pacific on January 1st, represents a rise of almost half a million since Valve announced a record of over eight million back in June during the summer sale. According to Steam's stats page, the peak number of users was 8,466,441.
Dota 2 is still the top-played game by a significant margin, with Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Football Manager, Skyrim, and Civilization V following at some distance behind.
It seems PC gaming is alive and kicking, and Steam Machines may help expand the market further if Valve can give people compelling reasons for introducing the systems into their living rooms.
