Assassin’s Creed Creator Developing ‘Historical’ Triple A Game

December 19, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Can it escape the curse of 1666?

Patrice Désilets, creative director of the original Assassin's Creed, announced the opening of his new studio Panache Digital Games last month, and now he's confirmed some details about his next game.

The former Ubisoft and THQ staffer is remaining tight-lipped on the project, but unlike many developers who've split away from big publishers in recent years, Desilets' game will be a AAA title.

"Indeed AAA Games, I believe in them," GameInformer quotes Désilets as commenting in a press release. "I believe wholeheartedly that this medium we call 'video games' can be a positive force for change in our society and that AAA quality gaming experiences have unmatched strength to achieve this."

Desilets goes on to state that the game will be a third-person "historical-action-survival" title. This isn't the first time since leaving the Assassin's Creed franchise that Desilets has tried to explore the past – he began work on a project titled 1666 when he moved to THQ. Following that company's collapse, Ubisoft acquired the rights to 1666 and Desilets returned to work for the publisher, however, the game was ultimately cancelled, leading to a spate of legal hustlings.

The Assassin's Creed franchise has had a lot of bad press lately, and perhaps a fresh look at history might be just what the genre needs.
