PlayStation's indie head, senior business development manager for Sony Europe Shahid Ahmad, is suprisingly upbeat in regards to the PlayStation Vita. Thanks to the number of indies coming to the portable, Ahmad claims software is no longer a problem for the platform.
Now, Ahmad clarifies that they do have Vita games from bigger developers, and those get announced every now and then, but by and large the console's lifeblood is in indies. They had 50 titles released for the platform this year, and Ahmad expects the same amount of games coming next year. At this point, as well, the overall catalogue of the Vita is healthy and diverse.
Ahmad reiterates earlier statements that due to 'commercial realities', certain titles that fans want to see won't get released on Vita anymore. However, if you do own a Vita, you can rest assured there won't be a dearth of games anytime soon.
On the developer end, Ahmad claims that they get as much interest in developing games for the Vita as they do for the PlayStation 4. On Sony's end, they're being picky about getting games that fit their platforms, and they also try to get exclusive versions of those indies made for them whenever possible.
Would you buy a PlayStation Vita now, knowing about its back catalogue, occasional game from major devs, and continuing indie support? Do you agree with Ahmad's sentiments? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
