Frontier Developments' Elite: Dangerous has officially launced after its successful crowdfunding campaign back in November 2012.
Backers have been able to play the space game's various alpha, beta, and gamma testing stages throughout this year, and now everyone can give it a go for themselves. Players who were involved in the gamma will not have their progress or position interrupted by the launch of the full game.
Dangerous is the fourth game in the Elite series, and the first since 1995's Frontier: FIrst Encounters.
The game has two major factions; the Empire and the Federation. The former's Emperor is ill, and a struggle to succeed him has already started, while the latter's President is considered a weak leader and some outer States are seeking to leave the union.
Players have the option to engage fully with the story or not at all, and your decisions will directly impact on the game's events.
You can watch the launch trailer for Elite: Dangerous here, which costs £39.99/€49.99/$59.99.
