Square Enix has reiterated that the Microsoft exclusivity deal for Rise of the Tomb Raider has a duration.
This follows the recent revelation that Microsoft will be publishing the game themselves, for their platforms, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
If you look back at previous statements from when the news was first revealed, both Square Enix and Microsoft have been consistent with what they have said about the deal. However, taking each statement in isolation can be misleading, as they don’t tell a full picture.
Here’s what we know for sure about the deal so far:
· Rise of the Tomb Raider will be exclusive to Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
· The game will be coming out to these platforms during the holiday 2015.
· This exclusivity has a time duration.
· Microsoft will be publishing the game themselves.
· Microsoft entered this deal because they do not have an original IP in the same genre, to match Uncharted, a game by their competitor Sony.
· Square Enix entered this deal because Microsoft have been good partners with the company, and will help them make the game the best that it can be.
Fans may be hopeful, but there is nothing indicated here that should make fans expect Rise of the Tomb Raider to appear on PlayStation 4 at all.
