Maisie Williams, best known for her role as Arya Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones, has told IGN she "would love" to play Ellie in a movie adaptation of The Last of Us.
Williams said that while she didn't know much about the game, her agent set up a meeting with producer Sam Raimi and game director Neil Druckmann, who were both quite keen to cast her for the role. Indeed, they even offered to have her moderate Naughty Dog's Comic-Con panel earlier this year.
Given her unfamiliarity with the game, however, she declined.
“I had a meeting with Sam Raimi and Neil Druckmann,” she commented. “And they said they’d love if you would moderate the panel at Comic-Con, but you’d need to watch the walk-through and know your shit because there are massive fans of this and we wouldn’t want it to go wrong.
“I was doing so much work for Thrones that I didn’t want to half-arse do it, so I said I’m not going to [moderate]. They said fine, but they’re gonna announce they had talks. So the way it was left is they want me to do it, and I want to do it. But there’s no script, no director, and no anything else. So at this moment, it’s looking like, ‘Yes,’ but it’s still such early days.
“At the moment, it’s looking good, and I’d love to do it. Hell yeah.”
Druckmann has confirmed that the story will follow that of the game, which saw Ellie and her partner Joel cross an America ravaged by 20 years of a fungal infection responsible for wiping out much of the human race.
If nothing else, both Arya Stark and Ellie know just how true the phrase "valar morghulis" is and, for that matter, "stick them with the pointy end".
