SteamWorld Heist, the turn-based strategy follow-up to the 2D platformer SteamWorld Dig, is still on track for release next year, and now we know which platforms it'll land on. Developer Image & Form announced this morning that Heist is set to release on all current-generation platforms — that means Windows, OS X, Linux, Wii U, 3DS, PS4, PS Vita, and Xbox One. The team will employ a staggered release, but which platforms will get the game first is still up in the air.
Image & Form is also shooting for a mobile release, particularly for tablets, as the action may be too detailed for phones. The previous SteamWorld title, Dig, will most likely stay off mobile entirely due to the need for more precision controls.
Speaking of staggered releases, Image & Form dropped an interesting nugget of information regarding publishing on Nintendo platforms in Japan: In order to get the game out over there, the team would either need to find a local publisher or set up a local office. They decided to go through a publisher to avoid having to relocate any of their own staff. In contrast with the ease in which indie developers can release their games on Nintendo machines in the West, Nintendo of Japan still has a bunch of silly roadblocks complicating matters overseas.
SteamWorld Heist is targeting a Spring 2015 release.
