Far Cry 4 Patch 1.4.0 Remedies Black Screen Issue for PC Players

November 21, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

A new patch fixes one very annoying problem.

Far Cry 4 released earlier this week to positive review. While it didn't necessarily blow our tops off in the way we were expecting, it no less has served to be a tour de force in strong game development. Filled with interesting characters and given a graphical capability that is nearly unmatched this console generation, Far Cry 4 stands among the best.

However, even the best games have their issues. Far Cry 4 players on PC have been reporting one problem that sounds like it could be very annoying. Apparently, having different USB devices or drivers installed on your computer while starting up Far Cry 4 can result in a black screen, disabling you from playing the game. Ubisoft has addressed this in a blog post, and assures us that the fix will be coming later today.

We've heard the community and are pleased to say that we have been able to remedy the issue (identified in our Known Issues list yesterday) causing some PC versions of Far Cry 4 to go directly to a black screen due to the presence of external USB devices. Some have been able to temporarily fix this problem by disabling USB devices and certain drivers, but we realize this is in no way ideal. For that reason, this Friday, November 21st, we'll be releasing Patch 1.4.0 for PC that should remedy the problem and allow PC players to enjoy the game as normal.

Thankfully, Far Cry 4 hasn't had the same number of bugs and issues that Assassin's Creed: Unity has. Considering they both came from the same development teams, it does come as a bit surprising that Far Cry 4 was able to avoid these post-launch woes.
