2016's Battlefield 5 will feature a more military-themed feel, if reports from Gamespot are accurate. The latest entry into the series, Battlefield: Hardline, featured a battle between cops and robbers. While that was interesting, it lacked the grandiose feeling that warring nations brought to gaming. Furthermore, it proved to be one of the less popular entries into the Battlefield franchise. For a series of this magnitude, 'less popular' just can't be in the vocabulary of a game's release.
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen spoke today during the 2014 UBS Global Technology Conference. Jorgensen said that he had seen the game very recently and noted that he thinks it will be a, ""fun, new Battlefield."
"That will be a return to a Battlefield military-style game; more to come on that," he said.
The idea of annual releases in the game industry has been surrounded by a lot of controversy. When Jorgensen was approached about the topic, he had a quick answer: "We want to give Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline players more time to enjoy these games and immerse themselves in a game, the live service, and the community."
While more content is always nice, seeing developers take more time in developing their games is also cool, too. There's a mentality in the games industry right now that states 'more is better,' but that's not always true. It appears that maybe EA is starting to realize this. With the considerable amount of resources that the company has at their disposal, we'd love to see what EA can really do when there's more emphasis on the mantra of 'quality over quantity.'
