Amateur coder smea decided to wait until after New 3DS launched before launching his amibitious 3DS Homebrew Channel. He wanted to give the new hardware a spin to see if the exploit worked in the same fashion as it does on regular 3DS machines. At first, it seemed like he would wait until New 3DS' Western launch, but apparently not! The exploit ought to be made available this Saturday, November 22!
The exploit, which will work with all models of 3DS and 2DS in North America, Europe, and Japan, requires that you own a copy of an out-of-print 3DS title called Cubic Ninja, developed by AQ Interactive and published by Ubisoft. The copy can be physical or digital (it's only available in one form or the other in certain regions), and it of course has to match your hardware's region. Naturally, prices for Cubic Ninja have quickly shot up in the aftermarket, so try to find a good deal as soon as you can.
What will homebrew do? It won't allow you to pirate games — smea made sure of that! But it will allow for homebrew programs and eventually region-free gaming. One of the first programs available will be Gameyo, a Game Boy emulator. That flies against the "no pirating" thing, technically, but the piracy prevention was only ever meant for dedicated 3DS games.
