When Nintendo announced that a third wave of amiibo would be arriving in February 2015, it also explained that some amiibo will be exclusive to certain retailers. We now know what the first retailer-exclusive figure will be: Shulk.
Shulk is the hero from Xenoblade Chronicles, the Monolith Soft-developed RPG that almost didn't get localized in North America. When it finally did, it was only made available at GameStop outlets. In keeping with Xenoblade tradition, the Shulk amiibo will also be found exclusively at GameStop when it arrives in the spring.
While we're on the subject, we've just learned some interesting facts from the Japanese amiibo page. It appears that the figures can only store data for one game at a time. If you want to save information from another amiibo-compatible title, you'll have to write over the previous data. At the moment, only Super Smash Bros. for Wii U stores data directly on the figures — all other current amiibo games, like Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors, only read amiibo data to unlock in-game items, so you'll be able to reuse your figures without worry for the foreseeable future.
The first set of amiibo will arrive November 21 alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
