How to get Supply Drops and New Variants in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfighter

November 10, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Information reveals how to get ahead in the new Call of Duty.

While none of you reading this are probably new to the Call of Duty franchise, there's still a lot of new data to gather upon each release into the franchise. Sure, the point and shoot formula remains the same, but learning the ins and outs of new perks, maps and Kill Streaks can be quite the daunting task. We've brought a couple of snippets from around the web that should make your journey through Call of Duty: Advanced Warfighter just a little less scary.

Courtesy of one Redditor, here's how you actually get supply drops in Advanced Warfighter:

We can finally put this issue to bed. Out of curiosity, I dug up a link that was actually posted to r/CoDAW by an Activision Support account here only a few days ago. This is the link that was provided, in case you don't wanna check out that other post. It details exactly how you gain Supply Drops in all game modes, directly from Activision. In case you just wanna read how right here, I typed out my version below:

How to Earn Supply Drops:

  1. Play the Campaign and reach certain objectives (this actually just gives you Campaign related gear that shows up in your New Items, not a Supply Drop)

  2. Play Exo Survival and unlock different tiers (this gives you Zombie-themed items, not a Supply Drop just like Campaign)

  3. Play Multiplayer and earn Drops > "based on the amount of time you have played". That's directly from their page.

In case you're wondering, I did some testing to check how long it actually takes. My first test came up with 42 minutes of in-game play time, while my second took 48 minutes. Some further testing is probably needed to find an exact time, but I averaged it out to earning a Supply Drop every ~45 minutes. I covered the findings in video form on my YouTube channel here. Check it out if you'd like.

I know YouTubers aren't exactly popular around here, so let me explain myself. No, the purpose of this post is not a shameless plug. Some people do enjoy information delivered in video form, so that's why I added my link at the very bottom of this post below all of the useful information. Now you all can stop asking the same question 20 times per day!

Furthermore, it's also been revealed that getting 300 kills with weapons gets you a new variant:

This variant is normally a direct upgrade, or a direct sidegrade.

For example, the MP-11 Devourer has higher range, and a slower firing rate, making it suited to longer range engagements.
