For this week, Sakurai outlined all the different ways the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros distinguishes itself from the 3DS version. Incredibly enough, Sakurai still has not run out of new things to share about Smash.
On Monday, we were treated to the main menu screen. With all the extra room, Sakurai has added animated silhouettes moving around the background.
On Tuesday, Sakurai shared information on Fiend’s Scale in the Wii U version. Both the 3DS and Wii U versions use the Fiend’s Scale as a menu to determine the difficulty level when playing Classic Mode. The higher you raise the difficulty, the more intense Fiend’s Scale appears. Subsequently, the background surrounding the Classic Mode game board looks more intimidating.
On Wednesday, Sakurai shared two new events in single player mode. In place of Coin Battle from the 3DS, the Wii U version gets Jackpot Opportunity. You start off with a 1,000 Gold debt and collect coins in mode to pay it.
Another event isn’t even a fight at all. In It’s Past Your Bedtime, you play Jigglypuff, and it what appears to be a sendoff of WarioWare microgame Cat Nap, you need to get the other fighters to sleep at the same time.
On Thursday, Sakurai unveiled something that missed the 50 Fact Smash Wii U Direct: a Yoshi’s Woolly World stage! This was added in at a later stage, and is correspondingly as soft and squishy as the textured graphics imply. You can jump on the mobiles, but staying balanced will be challenge, and the stage periodically shuffles around, so much so that sometimes there won’t even be a cushiony ground to fall on.
Finally, today Sakurai shared another new stage: Wuhu Island, from Wii Sports Resort. This stage seems a lot like the Pilot Wings stage, and part of it also places you atop a floating glider, but this stage is designed to move like a tour of the area. You start off on a power cruise race, and will traverse a mountain summit, fountain, suspension bridge, and an actual fighting arena. You can even be on a boat.
