If there were any signs that the Call of Duty franchise was slowing down, this might be it. According to statistics gathered over the last few days, the latest entry into the Call of Duty series, Advanced Warfare, is not seeing that much play. In fact, it doesn't even make it on to the top 10 most played list on Steam. For a series that's supposed to be so immensely popular, this should come off as a huge red flag for Activision and Sledgehammer Games. The first few weeks of a Call of Duty release are supposed to be the best time to enjoy the game's multiplayer portion, and if fans can't enjoy that, then what are they supposed to do? Play through the same campaign of 6-7 hours over and over? I don't think that's a very feasible plan.
Though, we can't throw to much guile at Advanced Warfare just yet. The problem may be coming more from the development end of things, as yesterday we reported that Activision's dedicated servers for the game are not really working as intended. The promises of strong server capability have fallen to the wayside and could be affecting the amount of time people spend on the game. Considering enjoyment and time played generally have a really close relationship with one another, both measures have to be quite high.
The Steam top 10 most played list is as follows:
748,225 | 775,711 | Dota 2 | |
160,409 | 226,173 | Counter-Strike: Global Offensive | |
