Destiny: Bungie Details The Dark Below Expansion

November 3, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Quests, new exotics, and more feature in The Dark Below.

Destiny developer Bungie has detailed The Dark Below expansion, which is set for release on December 9th, on their website.

If you buy the expansion you'll unlock access to the following:

  • Three story missions featuring new enemies and encounters in the Cosmodrome and Moon
  • Tower Character and Vendor, Eris, featuring new Quests, Bounties, and rewards
  • Exclusive Legendary Weapons and Armour
  • New Exotic Weapons
  • “Will of Crota” Strike
  • “Crota’s End” Raid
  • Three crucible Maps: Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron
  • Maximum Light Level increase to 32 (from 30)

A new Crucible playlist featuring new maps will also be made available, and Bungie says they'll reveal new details once they add the finishing touches.

Even if you don't pick up The Dark Below, you can expect the following:

  • Some new Weapons and Armour
  • New Daily Bounties
  • Five additional Bounty slots

The Dark Below will see a new character, Eris, arrive on the Tower and she'll bring new bounties (some of which will be available to those without the expansion), as well as quests. Quests are defined as:

"They are multistage tasks that culminate in a reward, similar to the Exotic Bounties you may have experienced. Unlike Exotic Bounties, the Quests in the Dark Below can be completed by players who are solely focused on the cooperative story content of The Dark Below."

One quest will lead to the Will of Crota strike, while another might simply ask you to return to Earth to counter a Hive threat. Finally, Bungie has also said you can expect news on how they're tweaking exotics soon.
