Cloud Imperium Games has unveiled Star Citizen’s FPS module in this year’s PAX Australia. Above, you can see almost ten minutes of footage from the event.
The game will break from many FPS conventions, partly in the service of the main game’s design. The main difference is how arm, eye, and head movements have been separated from each other. Instead of having the gun stuck to the front of your face, it will be follow eyeball movement, which itself will snap to the horizon while running.
Gameplay is mostly similar to Arma, rewarding deliberate movement and tactical play. It will have cover mechanics similar to Far Cry. There will be no third person camera, and instead, first person and third person animations will be completely synced with each other.
The big hook for existing FPS players is gravity, as you will be able to shoot in zero gravity. Oxygen, gravity, temperature, and radiation all affect how your weapons perform.
Inventory will be physically visible, and there will be no bunny hopping. There won’t even be instant respawns, as you only get one life per round and respawns are limited to areas such as medic bays. In these ways, the game will be closer in design to a space sim than a conventional online shooter.
Star Citizen FPS Module will have both Coop AI and PVP modes. You can learn more about it here.
